Tubular Childhood Times Have Come Back for a Radical Visit

Kaitlin OıHara and Mandy Tessmer

If we could ³flashback² to the 1980ıs when many of us were living in the diaper age, carefree memories would come back to us.

Itıs easy for Marian girls to remember hugging a Care Bear before bed, never letting our beloved Strawberry Shortcake leave our sight, or not knowing that Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael were actually famous Italian artists. Or do you remember racing home from grade school just in time to catch the Full House double header at 4p.m.?

To the excitement of many, we do not have to remember these good old days as they are making a comeback.

Now, these ³kids² have grown into teenagers and find themselves with a sense of nostalgia seeing all of their favorite toys . . . and more.

If you have not seen it on the racks at the mall, being worn by your friends, or even buried in your parentsı closet (sad, we know), 1980ıs fashion trends are back too, and they are bigger than ever.

From stripes and paisleys, handbags and haircuts, to the biggest dangly-earrings you have ever seen, these trends have found a place in our ever-changing fashion styles.

Still donıt believe us? Then head to the mall to see for yourself. You will find that the 80ıs trends continue with layered knit blazers and cashmere sweaters which pair well with  mini-skirts. Of course we canıt forget the classic denim jackets and pea coats, which also continue to dominate, especially with fur-trimmed collars for colder weather.

You can thank stores like Hollister, American Eagle, and Abercrombie & Fitch for bringing back the ³vintage² or ³re-issue² look. Fashions such as leg warmers, torn sweatshirts and big hair have all come back due to the popularity of these stores and their advertising techniques. These stores have completely changed from their typical new style to an 80ıs look with a new flare.

³I think itıs [80ıs clothes] a fad that in a year people will look back on and wonder why they were into that,² said Junior Issa Svehla.

And, heaven forbid, if we would forget to accessorize! Add some glitz to your wardrobe by snapping on some bright colored dangly earrings and grab your clutch handbag.

The 80ıs are all around you. Whether you find them by digging up a box of junk at home, tuning into the new retro radio station (106.9), or even window shopping and checking out the latest old styles; they have made a definite comeback.
